Review of Wimbledon Ladies semi finals

Defending champion Venus Williams will head into her 7th Wimbledon singles final on Sunday after comfortably defeating Russia’s Elena Dementieva in straight sets 6-1 7-6.

Elena Dementieva’s weak serve proved costly in the first set as her powerhouse of an opposition blasted through her taking the first set with ease.  Elena fought back from 2-0 down in the 2nd set and put up a fight before eventually being overawed by her American opposition 7-3 in the deciding tie break.  Venus Williams is still to drop a set in this years championship.

Bet update: We staked £30 on Venus winning 2-0 at 4/6.  Return: £50

Serena Williams will face her sister in Saturday’s final after overcoming this years giant killer, Jie Zheng in 2 sets 6-2 7-6.  The 2-time Wimbledon champion had a 5-2 lead in the 1st set before the first rain break today.  After the rain break, Serena came back out to take the first set.  Jie Zheng put up a valiant effort in the 2nd set, taking it to a tie break.  She batted back from 5-2 down to 5-5 but eventually lost 7-5 with a double fault with Venus and their father looking on.
